About

Hello and welcome! I'm Mariah Olivera-Rivera - a certified birth doula, a breastfeeding mommy, and a passionate advocate for positive and empowered experiences throughout pregnancy, labor, birthing, and everything after. I also have advanced training in waterbirth, general hydrotherapy, the use of TENS during labor, and bereavement support.

I know firsthand what it's like to not have a doula. In July 2023, at 41 weeks of a completely healthy, low-risk pregnancy, I was pressured by my midwife into an unnecessary induction. I had done the research, took the classes, read the books, created my birth plan, and interviewed doulas. But I ultimately decided that I was "safe" since I was using a midwife. I was wrong.

The induction that I didn't want or need quickly turned into an emergency c-section, as both me and my baby had adverse reactions to the synthetic oxytocin (Pitocin) that was used to "get my labor going". Unfortunately, I am not alone. This experience is extremely common and is known as "the cascade of interventions". I so wish that I had someone in my corner to help me advocate for myself, amplify my voice, and ensure that my provider respected my wishes while I was in a vulnerable state.

To say that I felt inspired to become a doula after that experience is an understatement. I now feel like it is my life's calling to make high-quality doula services as accessible as possible and be that vital support person for as many mamas as I possibly can.
